Our School Day

At our school, the structure of the day has been carefully designed to meet the needs of our students, particularly those with SEMH and anxiety. Student voice has played a key role in shaping our approach, ensuring that the timetable supports engagement, wellbeing, and academic success.

A Thoughtfully Designed Structure
A Soft Start – We begin the day with Form Time (8:45am – 9:15am) to provide a calm and supportive start. This allows staff to check in with students, address any immediate concerns, and set a positive tone for the day.

A Gentle Transition into Learning – The first lesson (9:15am – 9:45am) is shorter and non-core, giving students time to settle before tackling more academic subjects. This ensures that they are in the right mindset to engage effectively.

Built-in Reset Breaks – Readiness for Learning sessions are placed between lessons to provide regular opportunities for students to reset and refocus. These short breaks help with emotional regulation and encourage students to stay engaged, knowing a break is always within reach.

Balanced Learning Blocks – Lessons are structured to ensure deep engagement without overwhelming students. The timetable alternates focused learning time with strategic breaks, helping students sustain concentration.

A Strong Focus on Reading – Daily Reading (2:20pm – 2:30pm) is an essential part of our routine, reinforcing our commitment to literacy. Reading is a priority for our school, and by placing it at the end of the day, we ensure that all students engage with it consistently.

Reflection and Closure – Reflection Time (2:00pm – 2:20pm) provides students with a structured opportunity to process their day, address any anxieties, and use their Zones of Regulation strategies. Any concerns can be discussed and resolved before they leave, ensuring they can return the next morning with a fresh start.
